This timber policy is in line with the trend of major timber market globally and its stronger demand about TLAS (Timber Legality Assurance System). It is a hot news, Indonesia issued The Indonesian Timber Legality Verification System or Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK) in Indonesian to enhance the competitive advantage of the international and local market.
The Timber Certification is a policy to efforts and assures the legality of many forest products such as logs, plywood, wood working, wood furniture, pulp and paper, mouldings, MDF, etc. This Indo-TLAS improve the forestry business to contribute in global environmental sustainability, reduce illegal logging, and illegal trading.
Its application is based on The Minister of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia decree (Permenhut P.95/Menhut-II/2014) on the standards and guidelines of performance evaluation of sustainable forest management and timber legality verification for permit holder or on private forest.
These regulations had been supported by The Minister of Trade of Indonesia regulation (Permendag 97/M-DAG/PER/12/2014) on forestry product export regulation. This policy regulates forest products exports to obtain V-Legal document. The timber product exports are plywood, sawmill, chip wood, LVL, veneer, furniture, woodworking, pulp and paper.
